The end of an era. My entire summer I had dedicated to leading teams on mission trips all over the world. By this point, I was tired, drained, and wanting to be home. I caught myself comparing this experience to other ones that I had already had.
Here's the danger in doing that: you can't compare the power of God to earthly experiences. God is not in comparison to this world. The joy I experienced on these trips is barely a fraction of the endless joy that God is.
The role I played on this trip as a leader was incredibly different than I had before. I saw students step out of their comfort zones and have faith alone in God. I saw pure joy in the people of Guatemala. And then I was given the privilege of witnessing so many lives changed by the Gospel. God you amaze me.
There is so much more to this life than what we can see. The most amazing thing to exist is someone who is invisible. Though there is more, we still rely on what we see more than what we can't see. My team was challenged to share the truth to the lost. One of the big things that we emphasized was to use the Bible as a tool to reveal truth (since it is the definition of truth). The stories I heard brought me to tears. Parts of the world have no access to the Bible. Some have an incredible amount of access to it, but they don't know that they have it. In many instances, when we showed the person/people we were talking to that in the Bible (or even their own Bible) that the truth was real. When they could see it and read it they believed. But it was when they were moved to the point of tears that we knew they did much more than just believe. They desired to follow Jesus and take up their cross.
God did incredible things in Guatemala and I know a revival is beginning in that beautiful place. We need God always; every day, every hour. When I was drained and ready to be home, the Lord gave me the strength. When I was doubting that the Lord would move like he did before, he restored my faith in who he said he is. How great is our God who calls us to the altar to rest and confess "Every hour I need thee."
Psalm 46:8-11 - "Come, behold the works of the LORD, how he has brought desolations on the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. 'Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!' The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress."
